Chi Chi Lip Gloss

From the Chi Chi cosmetics website:

Chi Chi Gloss pots are as individual as the women who wear them. Enriched with a delicious blend of Vitamin E, Jojoba and essential oils, they will condition your lips as you shine. Our range of 18 colour pots include sheer, creamy, shimmering and opalescent finishes all with their individual flavours. The perfect pout for very occasion.

More of like a creamy lipstick in a pot. The shade that I got is “Screen Siren”. Not too pinkish and not too reddish for me. Just a hint of color which looks great for everyday wear. Smells very nice too! The pot is big (14g) and will last for ages!

The Body Shop: Tea Tree Oil Face Mask

From The Body Shop website:

Draws out impurities before they can cause trouble, absorbs excess oil, and helps refine the skin. Use this clay-based mask weekly to deep clean oily/blemished skin. Your skin will feel clean, refreshed, and revived.

The face mask is color green and smells like other tea tree oil products. I won’t recommend it though to those who are sensitive to smell.

The face mask is fairly easy to use. Just put it all over your face, leave it for 10 minutes and wash it off with water. It doesn’t really dry completely like other face masks but it’s not meant to anyway.

While on my face, I can feel a little tingling sensation, which some say means that the product is working.

It’s not a miracle mask but it does what it claims to do – absorbs excess oil and helps refine the skin. Leaves my face feeling clean, refreshed and revived!

Like most face masks, this would last ages.

The Body Shop: Tea Tree Oil Freshener

From The Body Shop website:

Refreshing toner that removes excess traces of cleanser, dirt and make-up, helping to control shine and blemishes without drying the skin. With natural witch hazel to remove every last trace of make-up.

I have decided to purchase this since I already got the Tea Tree Oil Facial Wash. Comes in a similar packaging too. It also smelled the same like tea tree, somewhat medicinal/antibacterial.

I have tried so many toners and I have to say that this is one of the best. Others made my face more oily and shiny but this one didn’t. It removed the last traces of  dirt and make-up.  It feels gentle and refreshing and leaves my skin feeling sparkling clean.

The Body Shop: Tea Tree Oil Facial Wash

I have always heard about how good tea tree oil is for those with oily and blemished skin. So I thought I’ll give The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil line a try and I started with the cleanser.

From The Body Shop website:

Cleansing gel that lathers to gently cleanse, lift impurities and make-up while helping to control shine and blemishes, leaving the skin feeling clean and fresh. Deep cleanses to remove dirt and makeup while allantoin soothes skin.

The packaging is simple. It comes in a clear plastic bottle with a flip top cap and will last you around 3 months if used twice everyday.

One thing to note with this product is the scent. It smells antibacterial and not particularly pleasant. I didn’t liked it at first but after a few washes or so, I’ve gotten used to it.

Before I started using the cleanser, I had tiny bumps on my face mostly on my forehead. Somehow, the Neutrogena cleanser just stopped working on me. After using the Tea Tree Oil facial wash for a few weeks, my skin became a lot clearer and less oily. I still do get the occasional spots now and then but this has helped to get them under control. My only complaint is that it doesn’t remove make-up completely and I guess that is where the toner comes in handy.

Overall, this is a good cleanser that leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh and it did helped control shine and blemishes.

The Body Shop: Vitamin C Skin Boost

So I went to The Body Shop without really intending to buy the Vitamin C Skin Boost. I was supposed to look at their makeup brushes but when I tried this product inside the store, my skin just felt sooo smooth so I immediately bought one.

From The Body Shop website:

A light, refreshing gel that boosts the skin’s smoothness, radiance, and vitality, leaving if supple and conditioned. Now with even more concentrated vitamins and super conditioners.

The small bottle is a little misleading as I thought I would run out of this stuff at once, but I’ve learned that a little goes a long way so this product can last you around 5 months or so.

The Vitamin C Skin Boost comes in a gel-like form, but not greasy, and once applied, made my face feel so soft and smooth! It also revitalized my skin and gave it a healthy glow. It made my skin “brighter” in a sense and I did not breakout! It really is a skin boost! I super love this product!

Lush: Fresh Farmacy

I was reluctant at first to buy a bar of soap as a facial cleanser, but after going through tons of great reviews about Lush products, I went ahead to the Lush store and decided to try one of their skin cleansers and see if their all-natural ingredients would do wonders for my oily, slightly sensitive skin. I was deciding between Angels on Bare Skin and Fresh Farmacy and so I asked the store assistant what she thinks. After asking me questions to determine what type of skin I have, she told me that Fresh Farmacy might be best as Angels on Bare Skin can be too moisturizing because of the essential oils. I went home excited to go straight to the bathroom to wash my face.

From the Lush website:

Use Fresh Farmacy when all else fails; even if you’ve been reduced to washing with plain cold water, convinced that everything in the world will make your sensitive react badly, give it a try. We’ve had some amazing results with Fresh Farmacy because we make it with loads of calming calamine and chamomile and a stack of essential oils to soothe easily irritated skin. If you’ve troubled skin all over your body please feel free to wash everything with it. Even if you don’t have sensitive skin you’ll appreciate Fresh Farmacy’s ability to keep your face in order.

This soap leaves your skin squeaky clean, even when you have tons of makeup on. How do I know? Because after washing, I put some toner on a cotton ball and wipe it all over my face and there are no traces of dirt on the cotton ball, not like when I use other cleansers. It also leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth. It has also helped me control my skin’s oiliness. The only downside I’ve found with this product is that it can sometimes leave my skin feeling a little tight, so I just moisturize right away or alternate on using The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Facial Wash.

I’m not sure though how long the 100g of soap will last because not a month has passed since I started using this product so I’ll just do an update when my soap runs out.

The Body Shop: Vitamin C Moisturizer SPF 15

I was a bit apprehensive at first to buy this moisturizer because it was pricey for me and it comes in a small tube ( 1.7 fl oz). I was also looking for an alternative to vitamin E products and after some research, I decided to try the Vitamin C moisturizer from The Body Shop.

From The Body Shop website:

Be sun smart. Defend your skin from damaging UVA and UVB rays while giving it healthy hydration. A light, non-greasy moisture lotion that helps to protect the skin, with a sun protection factor of 15, leaving it feeling soft and smooth.

Key ingredients:

  • Glycerin – Is an effective moisturizer which helps improve softness and maximize hydration.
  • Orange oil – Is known to uplift, refresh and energize the senses. Has a sweet citrus scent.
  • Panthenol – Is proven to improve flexibility of the nails, helping to reduce flaking and breakage.
  • Vitamin C – helps to fight free radical damage and brightens skin, leaving it looking radiant.

The Body Shop Vitamin C line is orange-scented but it doesn’t linger on your skin the whole day so you don’t have to worry smelling like oranges. But personally, it’s a nice fruity smell to help you jump start your day.

I love the fact that this moisturizer really is lightweight, non-greasy, has SPF, and didn’t cause me to have breakouts. It leaves my skin soft and smooth the whole day. My makeup applies smoothly and evenly over this moisturizer. My complexion has also improved a little.

It’s really hard for me to find a good day time moisturizer which has SPF that isn’t heavy on the face and causes breakouts so I’m gonna stick with this moisturizer for a while. The small tube will last around 6 months so I guess the price is worth it.

Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Night Treatment Gel

This one was a bit heavy on the pocket but I didn’t mind because I was hoping to look for something to help me quickly banish the nasty spots I got from Olay Total Effects moisturizer Smileys. So I headed to the counter to one of the world’s trusted brand in skin care – Clinique – and bought their product that claims to:

  • Fades out blemishes while reducing discomforts
  • Instantly helps comforts & calms redness
  • Provides an immediate refreshing touch
  • Leaves skin incredibly clear & radiant

If I had the money I would have bought all the products in their anti-blemish skin care range, but unfortunately, I don’t so I settled for the night treatment gel. First night of using it, the huge pimples on my face have subsided the next morning and within 1-2 weeks, my skin had become clear. Beware though of putting too much in your face as it can leave your skin feeling too dry. After using it every night for around 3 weeks, I feel my skin is getting a bit dry so I now use it every other night. Don’t worry about the price too much as this product will last you for ages and actually works!

Olay Total Effects + UV Protection

With all the rave I’ve heard about this moisturizer, I immediately went to the supermarket and bought myself one and got the variant which has spf 15.

Claims to fight the 7 signs of aging:

  1. Diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  2. Smoothes skin texture – visibly and to the touch.
  3. Evens skin tone for younger looking, more balanced color.
  4. Improves surface dullness, giving skin a radiant, healthy glow.
  5. Minimizes the appearance of pores.
  6. Visibly reduces the appearance of blotches and age spots.
  7. Soothes dry skin, hydrating with Olay moisture.

The cream is thick and I find this moisturizer heavy on the face. First day using it, my face became itchy and in the following days, small bumps suddenly appeared on my forehead and cheeks and within a week my face was covered with pimples. I was so pissed! I knew that this product was the culprit because this was only the new thing that I introduced in my skin care regimen. So I stopped using it and after a few weeks the pimples have subsided with the help of Clinique anti-blemish solutions night treatment gel.

I didn’t use this moisturizer long enough to find out if it really fights the 7 signs of aging. Smileys

L’Oréal ReFinish Micro-Dermabrasion Kit

L'Oreal ReFinish Micro-Dermabrasion Kit

I bought this one about 11 months ago when I went inside a drugstore to buy something but then a silver box suddenly caught my eye. So I’m a sucker for packaging. Anyway, according to the L’Oreal website:

ReFinish Micro-Dermabrasion Kit polishes away uneven texture and tone to instantly reveal healthy, luminous skin.

The kit contains a Gentle Micro-Dermabrasion Exfoliator and a Post-Treatment Protective Moisturizer. So I followed the steps carefully on how to use the Micro-Dermabrasion Kit, hoping to reveal an ultra-smooth, glowing skin.

After using the Gentle Micro-Dermabrasion Exfoliator, it did reveal an ultra-smooth, glowing skin but the effects are temporary. Ultra-smooth meaning soft as a baby’s bum when you touch your face but it did not smoothen out those little bumps that you sometimes have. Glowing meaning like literally glowing because of the aluminium oxide micro crystals (also used in professional micro dermabrasion) that is contained in the product. It also did not even out my skin tone nor reduced my fine lines (although I’m just 26). I’ve come to the conclusion, after a few scrubs of this product on my face, that it is a bit harsh on my slightly sensitive skin so I stopped using it.

For the other half of the ReFinish Micro-Dermabrasion Kit, the Post-Treatment Protective Moisturizer, I didn’t liked that the main ingredient is vitamin E, which is not suitable for me because based on my experience, other products that contained vitamin E made my skin more oily. So I only used the moisturizer once to prove to myself once again that I shouldn’t use products containing vitamin E (it’s kinda weird but that’s the way my skin reacts to vitamin E).

The L’Oréal ReFinish Micro-Dermabrasion Kit is still on my bathroom shelf after 11 months, still half full. You might wanna give this product a try if you have normal skin, but I won’t recommend it to those who have sensitive skin and maybe oily skin too.
